TYPES OF HAIR REMOVAL METHODS

Waxing, shaving and hair removal creams, although convenient, can be time consuming, do not have lasting results and regrowth can be itchy and prickly. It can also be more difficult to remove hair from large areas of the body yourself, such as your back, so laser hair removal is the easiest and most effective option. Regrowth is minimal, hair is reduced by up to 90%, and if you do experience regrowth in time, the hair will be much softer, finer and lighter than before.

Men also use laser hair removal to thin out hair in select areas and reduce facial hair (and the daily necessity to shave) altogether.

Avoid the irritation that comes with repeated shaving or waxing. Remove unwanted hair with laser hair removal. It’s an ideal solution for men as we can treat most areas of the face and body, for permanent hair reduction without the worry of ingrown hairs or shaving rash. As long as your hair is dark enough, laser treatment is the most effective method of hair removal.

No more stubble or uncomfortable regrowth!

Laser hair removal treatment works by releasing a wavelength of light into the hair follicle, which converts to heat, damaging or destroying the bulb, by a process called photothermolysis. Provided the hair is targeted at the right stage of growth (the anagen phase), this process slows or stops down the regrowth of hair in the treated area.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most people who have had laser hair removal with us say it isn’t painful, but it can be uncomfortable. During the treatment you may feel a sensation of an elastic band flicked repeatedly against the skin with an additional warm sensation. This is why our lasers are fitted with cooling devices to help treatment feel more comfortable, particularly when treating sensitive areas such as the face or pubic region.

How does laser hair removal work?

Where can I have hair removed with laser?

You can have laser hair removal almost anywhere on the face and body, even on delicate and sensitive areas such as the face and pubic area, as long as your hair is dark enough to attract the laser. At Laser Reform we treat the following areas on male clients: Glabella, cheek bones, chin, jawline, half face, full face, under arms, male bikini, shoulders, full back, chest, abdomen, full legs, full arms, fingers & toes.

How long does it take to see results?

Hair grows in four phases: the anagen phase, the catagen phase, the telogen phase and the exogen phase. To prevent re-growth, the hair follicle must be targeted during the anagen phase, which is the only part of the growth cycle that the hair follicle is attached to the bulb. Individual hairs will most likely be in different parts of the hair growth cycle at any one time, that’s why a course of treatment is required. Your practitioner will discuss this with you during your initial consultation, but as a guide we usually recommend around 8 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart (depending on the area to be treated).

Laser FAQs

  • Everyone has a different amount of hair, and everyone’s hair grows at a different rate. To get rid of all your unwanted hair in a given area, we need to schedule multiple sessions in accordance with your hair growth cycles. The number of laser hair removal sessions needed varies person to person because everyone’s body is different.

On average we recommend 6-8 sessions but it may be more or less.

We also take into consideration the area being treated, the type of hair coming through and any hormonal condition such as PCOS.

  • Each session can eliminate between 10% and 15% of your hairs. With each session, you will see progressive improvement. To target the maximum number of hairs during each session, it is best to space them between 4 and 6 weeks apart. This means that in most cases, you can be hair-free in your chosen area in less than one year.

  • Absolutely! The light that the lasers emit is attracted to your hairs, not the surrounding tissue. Therefore, it can remove your hairs without causing damage to your skin. The treatment is non-invasive and requires no downtime. You can go back to work and normal activities immediately after you leave our clinic.

When compared to other methods of hair removal, this treatment is safer. You don’t need to risk occasionally cutting yourself with a razor. There are no chemicals to irritate your skin as there are with the depilatory cream method. Unlike waxing, laser treatments don’t involve the discomfort of yanking each hair out by the root via hot wax. Waxing also incurs the risk of pulling off the top layer of your skin, especially if it is done incorrectly.

  • All skin types can be treated but this is only dependent on which device and settings are used. With our FDA approved Candela GentleMax Pro we can use two different wavelengths; 755nm for lighter skin tones and 1064 for darker skin.

  • No sun exposure/tanning beds/self-tanning for at least 4 weeks prior to the treatment.

The skin MUST be cleaned, deodorant and perfume free and shaved prior to the treatment. The failure to do so will result in an inability to have the treatment done.

No bleaching, waxing, electrolysis or plucking - only shaving allowed for the whole course duration.

No peels, laser resurfacing or medical-grade exfoliation within at least 4 weeks prior to the treatment.

  • No sun exposure/tanning beds for at least 4 weeks post-treatment.

If facial areas are treated, SPF 30 or higher must be worn throughout the course of treatment.

Treat the skin gently, as if you had a sunburn, for the first 48 hours - no exposure to any factors that can further aggravate the skin condition such as very hot showers, sauna, Jacuzzi, swimming pools.

It can take anywhere from 5-14 days for the hairs to fall out after the treatment.

After the axillae (underarms) are treated, you may wish to use a powder instead of a deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.

No tight clothing on areas straight after treatment. (eg jeans, tights)

No active products such as AHA’s, BHA’s and retinol for 3-7 days after treatment
